Article I Name:

The organization is the Society of the Knights of Anagoge, hereafter referred to in these by-laws as the Society.

Article II Purpose:

The Society is a Christian religious order whose purpose is to encourage its members to strive to live ever-increasingly religious lives by both example and the performance of good works.

Article III Administration:

The order is administered by a three (3) person Board of Directors consisting of a President, Treasurer and Secretary.

Article V Membership:

Article VI Membership Dues:

Membership dues are $10.00 for two (2) years and $20.00 for five (5) years, and are fully refundable at any time for any reason.  The only requirement is that the resigning member must resign in writing and forward his membership card and certificate to the Society for destruction.

Article VII Meetings:

The Board of Directors meets once per quarter on the first Monday of the meeting month.  There are no regularly scheduled member meetings.

Article VIII Ordination of Chaplains:

a.  The Board President, acting in his capacity as Senior Ordained Chaplain, shall determine and publish a list of requirements for selection as Lay Chaplain and Ordained Chaplain.  A list of all persons who have completed the Chaplain requirements shall be maintained at Society headquarters.

b.  Members seeking to be promoted to Chaplain status shall request consideration for promotion from the Senior Ordained Chaplain.  These requests must be made in writing and either emailed or forwarded by postal mail for consideration by the Senior Ordained Chaplain.  There is no fees involved other than the applicant must be a member of the order.

Article IX Duties of Directors:

a.  President

1.  The President shall be an ordained minister.  Ordination may be by another religious organization acceptable to and approved by the Society, or by going through the Society's Ordained Chaplain process.
2.  The President shall preside over board meetings and shall be the final arbiter over matters that come before the board.
3.  The President shall be the spiritual head of the organization.  When performing spiritual duties and ceremonies the President shall use the title "Senior Ordained Chaplain".
4.  The President shall be appointed for life, or until he/she volunteerily resigns or is removed from office for cause.  A unanimous vote of the other two (2) board members is required to remove the President.

b.  Treasurer

1.  The Treasurer shall maintain records of all funds received and disbursed.
2.  The Treasurer shall maintain two (2) separate ledgers: Administration and Charitable.  The funds identified in these two (2) ledgers may be maintained in one bank account so long as the funds are clearly identified as to which ledger they belong.
3.  The Treasurer shall ensure that all expenditures associated with the administration and operation of the
Society are only disbursed from Administration funds.  Administration funds are to be provided by the Board of Directors from their private funds, and no money collected in the name of the Society, either through the collection of membership dues or any other fundraising efforts, shall be used to fund the Society's operation.
4.  The Treasurer shall ensure that Charitable funds are only used as donations to other organizations in which the Society has no financial or administrative connections, and that Board-approved donations to other organizations are forwarded to those organizations in a timely manner.  The only other approved use for Charitable funds  is that members are permitted to provide emergency or comfort goods to hospital patients and nursing or veteran's home residents during visits out of love and charity.  These love gifts should be restricted to items costing less than $10.00.
5.  The Treasurer shall be appointed by the President from members of the
Society.

c.  Secretary

1.  The Secretary shall record the minutes of all Board meetings, and keep copies of the minutes from past meetings for at least three (3) years.
2.  The Secretary shall be appointed by the President
from members of the Society.

Article X Marriage

Marriage is considered to be a holy union between one (1) man and one (1) woman. Ordained members shall only provide wedding ceremonies for those unions.

Article XI Miscellaneous Provisions

There are no miscellaneous provisions.

Article XII Quorum

A quorum for conducting Board business shall consist of two (2) members.

Article XIII Amendments

Amendments shall be made to these by-laws as the Board deems necessary.  Amendments shall be posted on the Society's website ( http://knightsofanagogy.org ) for at least one (1) week before Board consideration. Society members are encouraged to comment on proposed amendments.  Amendments require a 2/3 majority vote of the Board for approval.

 

These By-Laws were approved by the Society of the Knights of Anagoge Board of Directors on 8/31/06.
